Mark will discuss the how to's when advising individuals who wish to donate to international causes need special considerations (Even paying for a child’s higher education that happens to be outside the US).

Notes:  This program qualifies for 1-hour of continuing education credit for Attorneys, CPA's, Planned Giving Specialists and Professional Fiduciaries.  This program is has been submitted to ABA Professional Certifications (CTFA), and the CFP Board of Standards for 1-hour continuing education credit review and is pending approval. This program does not qualify for Life Insurance continuing education.


Mark Powell is a Wealth Strategist with AdvicePeriod. His primary focus is working with high net worth individuals and families to facilitate efficient and effective transfers of wealth.

Before joining AdvicePeriod, Mark was a trusts and estates partner at two international law firms. He is a member of the State Bar of California, which has certified him as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. Mark’s writing has been published in a wide variety of media, and he taught for many years as an adjunct professor in the tax law program at the Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law. Mark was recognized for his contributions when the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) voted to offer him membership as a Fellow of the College in November 2014. (www.actec.org).

Mark grew up in Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in marketing and advertising and received his law degree from Mercer University’s School of Law. He made a break for the west coast after law school and has lived more than half his life in Southern California. He and his husband John have two children, who are both at university in Canada. Outside work, he spends his time hiking with their dogs, sailing, and serving on the board of directors for the Orangewood Foundation.
